Health Career Exploration Tours
The Health Career Exploration Tours (HCET) program is hosted by Northeast Florida AHEC and will take place July 5th -29th, 2022. This year, HCET will be a hybrid program. Students will be paired with community sites like Community Health Outreach, Volunteers in Medicine, and other organizations that work with medically underserved populations for a portion of each week while the remainder of the week is hosted virtually on Microsoft Teams. The program’s virtual portion will include a series of professional presentations, interactive discussions, and team-based activities that will help students gain a better understanding of the medical field, learn about specific careers, and gain insight on public health topics. This program will include an SAT/ACT preparation course and a two-day in-person experience at the University of North Florida where students can stay overnight in the dorms. This is a FREE program. Health Care Summer Institute
The Health Care Summer Institute (HCSI) is a four-week virtual program sponsored by the University of Florida College of Medicine, Office for Diversity & Health Equity, and the Area Health Education Networks (AHECs). The Purpose of the program is to provide an academic enrichment opportunity to rising junior and senior high school students who are interested in entering health-related fields such as medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, occupational and physical therapy. HCSI participants have the opportunity to take an Introduction to the Health Professions course, attend educational lectures, shadow health care professionals, improve academic test-taking skills in a series of SAT preparation courses, and participate in social and team-building activities. The only cost associated with this program is a $50 fee to accept the student’s spot upon acceptance into the program. HCSI will take place June 26, —July 23, 2022.
