School health clinic personnel provide a variety of services based upon the needs of the students in the individual schools and the educational level of the school health employee. Services include, but are not limited to:
Administration of medication
Acute health room care
Meeting emergency needs
Identification and follow up of chronic health conditions
Assistance with complex or chronic conditions
Referrals to appropriate local resources
Health counseling and consultation with a parent or guardian
Emergency health needs arise from injury, sudden illness or the progression of a new discomfort or symptom. The main role of the clinic staff is the management of the clinic. It is important for school personnel to respond quickly, to provide first aid when necessary and to minimize further injury and/or insult to the student while he/she is at school.
Health services are to be provided with respect for human dignity and the uniqueness of the student without regard to social or economic status, personal attributes or the nature of the health problem.
A STUDENT'S RIGHT TO PRIVACY SHALL BE SAFEGUARDED AT ALL TIMES BY JUDICIOUSLY PROTECTING INFORMATION OF A CONFIDENTIAL NATURE.
